Returning to the Azores volcano island life only once (what I recommend), I thought it appropriate to dedicate my next post to the Portuguese in my travel phrase guide series! That's right, I've come up with a lot of useful and common Portuguese phrases as well as pronunciation guides.Although Portugal covers a relatively small area, it played an important role in world history.
During the 15th and 16th centuries, Portugal began a major chapter in global history with new world discoveries known as "disconfirmation" in Portuguese.
As the Portuguese formed the Indian coast, colonial areas in Africa (including Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde), South America (Brazil), Asia (Macao), and Oceania (East Timor) formed such an empire.
That is why the Portuguese language is the biggest link between these countries and there is a great reason to learn the language.
And why should you learn Portuguese? Well, this makes it a lot easier to learn other languages, especially Romance languages like Spanish, Italian, French and Romanian.
Let's take a quick look at Portuguese so you can get a little more firm on its origin, usage and words.

Where is the Portuguese spoken? | Portugal travel phrases
The only official language of Portuguese, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Angola, and Sao Tome and Principe is Portuguese.It has the official language status in East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, and China as well as Macao! (The latter was a surprise to me too!)
As mentioned above, due to the expansion during the colonial period, Portuguese and Portuguese Creole speakers can also be found in Goa, India, Sri Lanka. Indonesia, Malaysia and the Caribbean are the languages spoken in Pepin while Cape Verdean Creole is the most spoken Portuguese Portuguese.

There are more than 250 million Portuguese-speaking people in Brazil with a population of over 200 million!

A brief history of the Portuguese | Portugal travel phrases
Being a Romance language, Portuguese is of Latin descent, which was brought to the island ins by the Roman soldiers, settlers and merchants 218 BC.
It was not until 1290 that King Dennis decided that Portuguese, known only as of the "vulgar language" (meaning the vulgar Latin), should be known as the "Portuguese language" and used officially. Should go By the 15th century, Portuguese had become a language rich in literature.
Due to new global discoveries made between the 14th and the sixteenth centuries, the majority of Portuguese-speaking people lived in South America in Brazil.
